David Marin, Baptiste Debombourg, Guillaume Dimanche and David Machet share concerns. They met during a collective performance in Paris (Galerie Taiss) and Naples (Palazzo delle Arti) organized by the Commissioner Thierry Geoffroy (ER). The environment and how to decline today as topical, omnipresent, unites their work, which merges and joins their personal approaches.
Following the invitation of Galerie 91, this group of young artists presents Suspension Active, a specific project and their first exhibition in the Netherlands. The central theme of this exhibition, Suspension Active, questions the link between society and its environment as a panorama of articulated photography, installation, video, and performance. The exhibition assumes their different approaches and finally shows a common reaction.
Guillaume Dimanche
uses digital image material as pictures where he creates poetic support for composing photographic frames. Videographer and photographer, he builds these frames by writing and assembling samples of fixed images. The frame becomes a subject, a sample of a pixel array, the artist uses, moves, superposes on and off lights to give life to his image. The ordinary subject is sublimed.
Multidisciplinary artist, he developed a high level technique as a digital art producer. He now has several businesses related to the manufacturing of the image: designer, videographer and photographer. Digital artist, transmedia, he participated for more than fifteen years in numerous exhibitions and publications, both at alternative and institutional locations.
Baptiste Debombourg
develops a research through the expanded field of sculpture, in connection with its environment by exempting the first objects to their mediocrity. The vulgar, the standard “is taking a stand” to use the etymology of the word sublime (sublimis in Latin). Baptiste Debombourg is interested in our use of everyday objects and their function - in particular standardized items packs, cartons, shopping cart, car - from mass production to the different modes of ownership given to the object (customization, tuning).
Baptiste Debombourg’s devices are conceptual, an artistic hybridism between drawings, sculptures, photography, films… Each project requires an encounter with a renewed curiosity, careful observation of the most pragmatic reality, most Basic.
David Marin
is working on the extraction of material, reintroducing manufactured elements in the environment from which our industrial society has extracted it. These art installations register in chips of colored pencils that we have drifted from questioning the impact of man against his environment.
Self-taught artist, David Marin turns in a first step in painting, around the movement and diffraction of matter. His Emergency Room participation in 2008-2009 led him to expand its production to other media: videos, photography, social installations, in resonance with immediate news. His current performance reflects a sensitive eye, focused on the changes in our environment.
David Machet
is a professional photographer for ten years. He left the happy color that obscured our visual perception to perpetuate a sober black and white and bare. His series “O° Celsius” started several years ago, and leads us to discover a world of muted, where the light is sometimes extremely diffuse yet ubiquitous. The accuracy of the square framing and the careful determination of contrast, sometimes to write these days without sun, lead us into a dreamlike world where time seems suspended. The use of a medium format camera is typical for his work. The rigor and simplicity of his art is in line with the precision and purity of the images.
